Swarmscapes

The idea for swarmscapes came to me over 30 years ago when I was working as a Sign Designer. This was back when screen printing was still popular.

Wooden tables were used that would become saturated with color oozing through nail holes...
After a while these tables were consumed and discarded. Their battle scars documented the many years of faithful endurance as their underbelly became more and more stressed and saturated with colour.

Seeing one for the first time changed my view on what beauty really means. It helped me to think deeper about the many tangible experiences of a piece of art... It's glamour, it's pain and its story.

So I decided to recreate the process that took years to evolve and speed it up.  Swarmscapes are made of plywood that has been stressed and painted to appear as though the paint is bursting through from behind...

My hope is to incite others to see the beauty in them that I do.
